Day 8, Thursday May 19th, 2016

We left for Caen in the morning, after meeting an American family at the breakfast table. Our first stop was the cathedral, which was impressive, and had taken a fair bit of wartime bombing damage.

Here it is from the outside.

In central Caen is the castle of William the Conqueror. After visiting here, we went to the Caen memorial, a large museum dedicated to the war, and to D-Day. It was a large place, and expensive, but well put together.

Nearby was an old town walking and shopping district. We had the most delicious pasta, made in the scooped-out rind of a parmesan wheel.

After Caen, we returned to the caravan for a short rest, then it was off the garage to get our replacement tire on the car. Afterwards, we drove down the coast to Arramanches to have a closser look at the remains of the Mulberry.

It was windy out on the beach.

The remains of the Mulberry were filled with sea water and seaweed. They won't last very much longer.

Then it was back to the caravan for a great sleep.
